Mariana Leitan, who will make her debut as an IL MP, was unanimously elected this Thursday as the new leader of the liberal parliamentary group, replacing Rodrigo Saraiva, an official party source told Lusa.
The choice of the ML parliamentary group was made unanimously at a meeting held this Thursday.
Mariana Leitan, Lisbon’s choice and one of the new additions to the IL following the last elections, is already familiar with parliament, having been chief of staff of the parliamentary group in the legislature that is now winding down its term.
This position was until now held by Rodrigo Saraiva, also re-elected, who leaves these positions.
Mariana Leitan, 41, has a degree in international relations, has worked in Illinois since June 2019, and was president of the National Party Council from 2020 to 2022.
Currently a member of the National Council, the new parliamentary leader of IL is also a municipal deputy in Oeiras.
In the legislative elections on March 10, IL established itself as the fourth political force and retained the same eight deputies.
