The family of Edwin Arrieta demands compensation of 410 thousand euros from Daniel Sancho, the agency reported this Friday EFE.
The 29-year-old man, arrested in August, is accused of killing and dismembering Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta by cutting him into 14 pieces and dumping them in various parts of Koh Phangan island in Thailand.
The victim’s parents and sister calculated the amount of compensation based on the surgeon’s average annual income of 30 thousand euros. The 76-year-old parents depended on their son’s salary. Every month Edwin Arrieta gave them 900 euros.
“After the death of their son, they found themselves in a situation of poverty. The parents’ health was excellent before his death, but has now deteriorated, with depressive symptoms, anxiety and terror, which is why they are often sick and require treatment,” explains the document brought to Thai justice.
The family estimated that the surgeon had 18 years of professional life and 29 years of life left. They note that the costs of legal representation and repatriation of the remains of Edwin Arrieta amount to approximately 79,200 euros.
Daniel Sancho’s trial will take place from April 9 to May 3 at a court in Koh Samui, Thailand. Thai prosecutors accuse the son of Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho of premeditated murder, but the young chef maintains his innocence.
