The President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, met with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the Belém Palace in Lisbon this Friday.
“It was a farewell to the president of the republic, with whom I was able to collaborate with all the sympathy that he showed in this joint work,” the socialist told reporters.
Augusto Santos Silva, who led the PS list in the “Beyond Europe” circle, failed to be re-elected to parliament.
“I ran in the same constituency. This time the voters did not trust me with a mandate. Respect,” he said.
For the first time, the President of the Assembly of the Republic was not elected as a deputy.
“I asked for this farewell audience from an institutional point of view – because I am finishing my term – and from a personal point of view,” the socialist explained.
