IL National Council analyzes government scenarios and election results today

The IL National Council meets this Sunday in Coimbra, where the results of the legislative elections, government and European election scenarios are discussed, while the party’s possible presence in the AD government is yet to be determined.

The meeting of the highest body of the IL between congresses was reported by Lusa two days after the legislative elections, in which the party led by Rui Rocha retained the same eight deputies, established itself as the fourth political force, had more votes, but failed to achieve its proposed goal election of 12 parliamentarians.

In addition to analyzing the results of legislative elections and discussing the European elections in June, members of national councils are expected to discuss various government scenarios.

The item was not on the original agenda but was added to the new call at the request of 10 national advisers, Lusa’s agency announced this week.

On Friday, IL President Rui Rocha said the next few days “will be decisive” regarding the party’s possible participation in government, citing Prime Minister-designate Luis Montenegro and AD as being responsible for the decision. if they want to change the country.”

As stipulated in the regulations, the National Council must vote and approve the agenda at the start of Sunday’s meeting, a body whose power is to approve “possible coalitions or electoral support for external candidates.”

The inclusion of this item in government scenarios becomes relevant at a time when the composition of the new AD government and the inclusion or non-inclusion of IL names in this list are being discussed.

On Wednesday, after the first of two audiences he had with the President of the Republic, Prime Minister-designate Luis Montenegro said he expected to form a government based on a majority “composed by PSD and SDS deputies.” PP”.

However, Montenegro refused to directly answer media questions about the possibility of IL joining the executive branch or about the possible presentation of a budget amendment.

According to the preliminary results of the legislative elections, IL won 4.94% with 319,685 votes, electing eight deputies.

Compared to the last legislative elections, despite the fact that the Liberals remained the fourth political force and with the same parliamentary representation, they received approximately 46 thousand more votes.
