Pope Francis did not speak during his homily at Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican this morning, the newspaper reported. Reuters.
However, the Supreme Pontiff continued to celebrate the Eucharist as planned. It’s not often that a pope misses the homily at an important Mass like he did this Sunday.
In recent weeks, the leader of the Catholic Church has been experiencing health problems. Francisco had a cold and bronchitis, which forced him to have assistants read his texts, which did not happen this morning.
The Vatican has not yet explained why the Pope “missed” the sermon. The broadcast footage showed tens of thousands of believers present in St. Peter’s Square for just a few minutes.
Minutes later, Vatican Radio reported that Francis had decided not to give a homily before the Supreme Pontiff resumed Mass as normal.
Palm Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday before Easter and celebrates what the Bible refers to as Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem a few days before his crucifixion.
