The PSD and the Liberal Initiative have confirmed that they are in talks, but for now IL remains outside the government. “There will be no progress at this time on broad agreements, including those related to the formation of a new government,” the statement, signed by the presidents of the two parties, said.
The new deputies will meet on Tuesday at the first plenary session of the 16th Legislative Assembly.
Rui Rocha said on Tuesday that “the only open door is to maintain dialogue on important topics.” He adds that it is “fundamental” that “the Portuguese can familiarize themselves with the proposals.”
“We presented 10 points, and we understand that in parliament we have more space to discuss points that are important for the country, with openness to dialogue,” he says.
IL’s president explains that the two leaders have “different priorities” that are “not aligned enough to achieve a broader understanding.”
“The main thing is to create an atmosphere of dialogue and good faith in conversations. We will approve everything that, in our opinion, will bring prosperity to the country,” says Rui Rocha.
