The councils of Porto and Lisbon regard TAP as “a disgrace and a total disaster”.

The mayors of Porto, Rui Moreira and Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, on Monday night deemed TAP “a disgrace and a complete disaster.”

At a conference on “Local Government, PRR and Decentralization” in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto District, two mayors felt that TAP was “not serving the country” and that the effort required of the Portuguese was “disgusting”.

“TAP is a remnant of the colonial company, nothing more. He is no good for us here. [Norte]”said the independent Rui Moreira.

The mayor said the air carrier is “a disaster and will remain a disaster”, questioning why Portugal has invested 3.2 billion euros in the company.

And he added: “Does anyone believe that someone is going to give us 3.2 billion euros? It’s just that if you believe, you believe in Santa Claus.”

Carlos Moedas also called TAP a “total disgrace” and a “sad episode” for the country.

“TAP is a total disgrace, it shows that it’s not only about the government leaning completely to the left, but also about being completely disoriented,” he said.

For a Social Democrat, “outrageous” for all Portuguese is the “effort made”.

Moedas also stressed the need to move to a new airport in Lisbon in order to achieve “more and better tourism”.

“If we want more talent and more and better tourism, we should have a new airport now,” the official stressed, adding that he would resolve the issue with the PS government in the field of mobility.
