“It is good for democracy to have demands from old and new political parties in the party system, in the media. Otherwise it will be a swampy situation. It is better to see if there are problems, to raise them, some are there, others are not, and this is a living democracy to be a swampy democracy,” said Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.
The head of state answered journalists’ questions in the midst of a session of the program “Music in the Belen Palace” at the former royal arena in Lisbon.
Answering a question about the sequence of cases and disputes in Portugal, the President of the Republic pointed to a foreign example, the executive branch headed by Rishi Sunak, who “has already had I don’t know how many dismissals for ethical reasons in a hundred days.” .
In his opinion, this is also “more happening in Portugal now than before”, because “in today’s democracies, control is very tight.”
