The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, told the representatives of the nine Madeiran parties that are hearing this Wednesday at the Belem Palace that there is a possibility of dissolving the Madeiran Legislative Assembly and calling elections on May 26th.
Leaving the meeting, Paulo Cafofo told reporters that the President of the Republic “has demonstrated his intention to dissolve the Assembly and call elections for May 26.”
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is expected to sign the dissolution decree later this Wednesday, following the conclusion of the Council of State meeting scheduled for 6 p.m.
The hearings started with BE, followed by PAN, IL, PCP, CDS-PP and Chega. In the afternoon, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa meets with representatives of the JPP, PS and PSD.
