The GNR detained 10 riders during a two-wheeler safety and patrol operation conducted from March 22 to 24 involving 667 soldiers, the corporation said on Wednesday.
According to security forces, during the three-day operation, 3,825 drivers were checked and 10 people were arrested, including “nine for not having a valid driver’s license” and “one for drunk driving.”
In a statement, the National Republican Guard said intensive checks and patrols were carried out, targeting “major access routes in the south of the country.”
The operation also resulted in 415 violations, including 33 for speeding, seven for drunk driving, 25 for license plate violations, and 36 for the use of unregulated systems, components or accessories, among others. .
The aim of the action was to “prevent and curb risky behavior by drivers,” particularly motorcyclists, and prevent accidents from occurring, the note said.
The operation at the Algarve International Circuit, where the Portuguese MotoGP final took place, was also accompanied by a helicopter in order to “guarantee the safety of the event and prevent road accidents,” GNR emphasizes.
According to the statement, with the support of the Carcavelos Road Unit, an operation was also carried out to raise awareness and check two-wheelers at the entrances to Cabo da Roca (Municipality of Sintra).
“Adopting risky driving behavior and not following traffic rules increases the risk of a traffic accident,” the State Police reminds.
Operation Moto GP 2024 took place from 22 to 24 March, with a particular focus on Aveiro, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Santarem, Setúbal and Faro.
