This Wednesday, the Secretary General of the Social Democratic Party noted that the Democratic Alliance has shown that it has neither a stable parliamentary or government solution nor “the capacity for initiative and leadership” after the deadlock in the parliamentary presidential elections.
Speaking to journalists in parliament, Pedro Nuno Santos confirmed that it was the PS that proposed the solution to break the institutional impasse, stressing that in the meeting he had this morning with PSD leader Luis Montenegro, he was not presented with “any solution.”
“In this process, the AD and the Prime Minister-designate have shown that they have neither a stable parliamentary solution nor a stable government solution, and have also shown that they have no capacity for initiative and leadership to resolve impasses like the one in which we found ourselves in the last 24 hours,” he said.
Pedro Nuno said that, as a responsible party, the PS had always said it would not allow constitutional deadlock by endorsing motions to reject it, just as it would not now “live in parliamentary deadlock.”
“For this reason, the PS, as a responsible party that wants to preserve the democratic institutions of our country, came up with a proposal that would allow us to resolve and continue parliamentary and political work, to truly focus on the problems of the country,” he emphasized.
