Crash shattered 50 euro notes, causing havoc on Spanish motorway

Hundreds of fifty euro banknotes “blew” this Monday from a car that had a minor accident on a motorway in Marbella, southern Spain, causing significant traffic with some drivers trying to raise money.

The accident occurred around 11:00 am (10:00 am in Lisbon) on Monday on a section of motorway 7 (A7) in the municipality of Marbella, Andalusia.

Traffic was chaotic after a minor accident as other drivers realized the money was literally flying.

“At first we didn’t really understand what was happening. But we could see parked cars and people who were getting out and bending over to pick something up,” eyewitnesses told Efe.

“Someone later noticed that there were fifty euro banknotes on the floor,” witnesses added.

The car involved in the accident contained a total of 20,000 euros, which belonged to two citizens of Arab origin who did not need medical attention and were carrying money in a suitcase, according to security officials, who could not specify the exact amount. the number of banknotes that flew.

A few minutes later, the situation caused a huge traffic jam, and firefighters, the civil guard and the road maintenance service of the General Directorate of Road Traffic (DGT) arrived at the scene.

According to Efe, in Spain a citizen can carry up to 100,000 euros and 10,000 euros when entering and leaving the country, while carrying a larger amount requires a declaration confirming his origin.

Without this documentation, the authorities may fine the owner of the money, or if there are other indications, the owner may be arrested and the money confiscated until the origin of the money is proven.
