Notifications and notices of medical boards can be made electronically from this Monday and beneficiaries will be able to request medical examination through video call.
This measure is part of the decree-law modifying the system of disability verification in the field of social security, which was published in the Diário da República on January 5 and which received warnings from the President of the Republic, together with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, when he promulgated it on December 29, stressing the importance of ensuring access to medical review board processes.
“The processes of testing incapacity, disability and dependency are dematerialized (…). Medical information, diagnostic aids and medical specialist reports submitted by the beneficiary, if not in electronic form, are digitized and recorded attached to the document. a dematerialized process in justifying the justification of medical actions,” the diploma says.
According to the Decree-Law, “the beneficiary may request a medical examination via video call” to confirm a temporary or permanent disability when it appears appropriate to carry out the assessment, provided that it is complemented by available clinical information or is available for this purpose. .
Review, reassessment and appeal committees may also be held via video in situations determined by Social Security.
The diploma specifies that the verification of situations of permanent incapacity, disability or dependence is based on the analysis of data concerning the physical, motor, organic, sensory and intellectual condition of the beneficiaries.
Technical verification of disability conditions is carried out by multidisciplinary teams or a certifying organization and is carried out by medical and technical experts of social security authorities or other bodies under the conditions and for the purposes established in specific diplomas.
The beneficiary will be summoned at least two business days in advance for a medical examination via Social Security’s electronic notification system, by SMS, by email registered with Social Security, in person, or by any other means required by law, and will be informed of the consequences of failure to appear.
