PS will vote for BE’s proposal to create a commission of inquiry for TAP, but not Chegi, socialist MP Carlos Pereira said on Wednesday.
At the beginning of the discussions on the two proposals to open a parliamentary inquiry into the airline, it was already known that only BEs would be viable, as PS parliamentary leader Eurico Brillante Díaz announced an abstention on January 10, given the scope and issues raised by the blocker initiative.
“We will not vote for the commission of inquiry on Chega, but we will vote for the Eskerda Bloc,” PS MP Carlos Pereira replied during the debate.
The PSD bench vice-president Hugo Carneiro accused the PS of presenting itself “timidly” in the debate, and the Socialist bench of changing its position from announcing an abstention to voting in favor of the BE proposal.
“The only goal pursued by the PS in this discussion is to save the finance minister, this was not even the chairman of the parliamentary commission of inquiry,” criticized the social democrat, asking why he would not also make Chega’s proposal viable.
In response, the socialist explained to the SDP that “for the PS, the approval of the Chega investigation commission is not the same thing.”
“If there are no problems for the SDP, then for the PS there is a big fundamental question, which, I hope, does not need to be explained by the SDP,” he replied.
At the final stage of the debate, Chega leader Andre Ventura warned that the party would not fail to question the duties of the finance minister, given that Fernando Medina’s time was “coming to an end.”
In presenting the proposal, BE MP Mariana Mortagua defended that “one thing is forgetfulness, another is the state of denial achieved by António Costa’s absolute majority,” noting that in an interview on Monday, the prime minister “denied that TAP salaries and compensation were a government affair.” .
“The commission of inquiry proposed by Bloco de Esquerda has simple goals: to end the vice of denial and forgetfulness, to ensure transparency in the management of TAP, to determine responsibility and to reverse decisions that offend workers and damage the public interest,” he explained, justifying , at the end debate that “the commission of inquiry into everything is investigating nothing” and that she hopes the papers “are not polluted with empty political games”.
During the presentation of his proposal, Chega President and Deputy André Ventura felt that this entire TAP process was “a socialist disgrace at its best” and stated that the airline “is the new Novo Banco and has a person in charge named Antonio Costa and PS”.
Therefore, Chega wants a “serious and deep investigation”, because it is necessary to “find out everything and everyone”, find out “what the money was spent on” by taxpayers, “donate to whom it hurts”.
From the IL side, Carlos Guimarães Pinto accused PS of being inconsistent on the position of the national airline and said it would approve a commission of inquiry “but without great expectations”, blaming the TAP executive president in the latest parliamentary session. rumor, “repeatedly concealing the truth”.
PCP MP Bruno Diaz once again insisted on the need to expand the powers of the commission of inquiry, which was immediately rejected by the proposer, BE, believing that limiting the investigation to one case “would contribute to humiliating the image and value of TAP and promote privatization.”
In the first speech of the PSD, Paulo Ríos de Oliveira explained why the party supports this commission of inquiry and will actively participate in it: “we are obliged to file an appeal because they lie to us, deceive us and hide the truth from us.”
From PAN, the only MP, Inés Souza Real, assured that the party would vote for the proposals being analyzed, given that “no one doubts that the position in TAP is a real Euromillion” and that the compensation to Alexandra Reis “is just the tip of the iceberg”.
Ruy Tavares, Livre’s sole deputy, criticized Chega for presenting its proposal to the commission of inquiry after BE’s announcement that it would do so, advocating for TAP that “all governance issues need to be identified”.
