Chegi President André Ventura said this Monday that by September the country will have a “central bloc government” of the PSD and PS, judged by the Portuguese, and confirmed that he will remain in the opposition.
“From today until September we will have a central unit in Portugal,” defended Andre Ventura, speaking to journalists outside the PPR’s territorial unit in the municipality of Sintra.
The Chega leader was asked about a letter sent by PS Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos to Prime Minister Luis Montenegro in which he made himself available to negotiate an agreement that would resolve the situation of certain professional groups within 60 days. in public administration, and to which the executive leader has already promised to respond.
Ventura considered this message “normal”, arguing that “after taking office, it became clear that the PSD wanted the PS to be its interlocutor, and therefore it was the party that should speak to it.”
President Chegi said that his party will be in opposition and will not fail to approve “positive proposals.”
“I think the time to tell the SDP that it can still break through, to leave behind the cape, the hat of the party that it criticized so much, has passed. The choice has been made and accepted and now it is time to work on those choices to avert an instability scenario in September,” he said.
Andre Ventura expressed the hope that PS and PSD “will create conditions for rapprochement in order to understand each other.”
Answering a question about the proposal to reject the government program presented by the PKP, the Chegi leader said that there was no point in approving the document since there was no “political alternative.”
“From now until September we will have a central unit in Portugal, so I see no reason to approve any proposal. I think we should let the SDP and PS rule, we will be here to see what went well and what did not.” this is bad and we will make a decision in September,” he said.
According to the Chegi leader, “PS has painted itself into a corner from which it cannot get out.”
“On the one hand, he wanted to be approachable, to show that he was the adult in the room, and he now realized that the Democratic Alliance had told him, ‘Then you’ll have to approve the budget,’ and he wants to get things done. in June or July, so as not to approve the state budget [para 2025]it’s obvious,” he defended himself.
Recalling that Socialist Party Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos has held several government positions over the past few years, including in the last executive body, Ventura questioned the credibility of a Socialist leader “proposing such measures.”
“If Montenegro believes that Pedro Nuno Santos has the right to propose such measures, he will make such a decision. One day the Portuguese will judge these two for the way they handled this government process,” he said.
