Pedro Nuno Santos believes Luis Montenegro’s letter contains a “dose of arrogance”

The PS leader considered this Monday that “it would be a mistake” to postpone and leave the decision of professional groups in public administration to the state budget for 2025, pointing to a “dose of arrogance” in the Prime Minister’s response to his letter.

Pedro Nuno Santos gave an interview to the publication this evening TVI/CNN in which he explained that the letter he sent this Monday to Prime Minister Luis Montenegro was a “concretization of the statement” he made after an audience with the President of the Republic.

According to the PS general secretary, salary increases for some professional groups in public administration have received broad consensus from the various parties participating in the election campaign, and there is “no reason” to delay this response.

Possible amendments to the budget “should be limited to these issues” so that it does not get mixed up with next year’s government budget, “which is much larger,” Pedro Nuno Santos said.

“If they want to resolve this issue, the PS is ready to do so,” he stressed, repeating that “it would be a mistake to leave these issues” for consideration in the next state budget.

Regarding the response he received from Luis Montenegro, Pedro Nuno Santos considered that “the letter is not without a share of the arrogance” that the Prime Minister expressed on occasions such as the election of the President of the Assembly of the Republic or the speech of the takeover of property.

“This government does not have a majority that would allow it to maintain such a relationship with the PS,” he said.

On Monday morning, a letter sent by Pedro Nuno Santos to Luis Montenegro was made available for negotiations on an agreement that, within 60 days, would resolve the situation of certain professional groups in public administration.

A few hours later, the letter received a response from the Prime Minister, who welcomed the PS leader’s “show of political responsibility and commitment” and promised to schedule a “timely working meeting” to review careers and salaries in the administration.

“I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that in due course we will be planning a working meeting on this topic, which should take place after negotiations with representative labor organizations. The timing and manner of conducting these negotiation processes will obviously depend on what the government will decide,” says Luis Montenegro in response to a letter sent to him this Monday by Pedro Nuno Santos and to which Luza had access.

On 19 March, after a hearing with the President of the Republic in Belém, Pedro Nuno Santos expressed his willingness to amend the AD budget, limiting it to “issues of consensus”, referring to an increase in the wage rates of these professional groups. administration before the beginning of summer.

A day later, when asked about the issue, Luis Montenegro said he was “pleased to note the sense of responsibility” for the message made by the PS general secretary, but declined to say whether he would be willing to negotiate on the possibility of a possible amendment. Budget.
