Lisbon’s captaincy and maritime police are continuing their efforts to try to find the body of a shellfish harvester who went missing on Saturday in Montijo, Lisbon port commander Rodrigues Vicente said on Tuesday.
“The shellfish harvester is still missing. As part of the normal patrol and surveillance services that we carry out both from the maritime police and from the Lisbon port authority, we are continuing the search,” he told Lusa Rodrigues Vicente.
“Experience tells us that sometimes when we don’t recover the body on the first or second day, it may take several days for it to appear. And there are times when the body never recovers,” he added.
On Saturday at 23:00, authorities received a report of the disappearance of two shellfish harvesters who were collecting shellfish in the Tagus River, near Cais do Seixalinho, in the Setubal region.
The body of one of the men was found around 9am on Sunday morning, but the second missing clam has still not been found.
