Preventive detention of a suspect for stalking and aggravated menacing in San Miguel

The man was remanded in pretrial detention because he was “seriously accused” of crimes of stalking and aggravated threats against a colleague in San Miguel, in the Azores, the Public Security Police (PSP) said this Wednesday.

According to the PSP regional command in the Azores, the 48-year-old man was already subject to “coercive measures to control his movements” using an electronic bracelet to ensure the protection of the victim.

However, during the monitoring carried out by the authorities, “it was possible to collect evidence indicating non-compliance with the court decision and the continuation of criminal activity,” the PSP reports.

This coercive measure was therefore subsequently tightened and the man was also “banned from being absent from the municipality of Ribeira Grande.”

The investigation also found that “allegedly motivated by a passionate nature, the defendant, for several months, used various methods of systematic control over the life and movement of the victim, which was aggravated by the psychological and emotional pressure exerted on him through various publications on social networks,” PSP explained in a statement. sent out to the editorial office.

In addition to the defendant’s alleged “harassment of the victim at work,” PSP adds that “new evidence” has also been collected to charge the defendant with “aggravated menacing crimes,” one of which is “by her own mother “

After being re-interrogated by the judge of the Ponta Delgada criminal investigation, the suspect “awaited the remaining stages of the process in preventive detention,” the PSP regional command said.
