The executive wants to “revise” labor changes in the Decent Work Agenda

The government intends to “revise” the work changes approved by the previous executive under the Decent Work Agenda, which have been in place for almost a year, according to a government program presented to parliament this Wednesday.

In the document, the new leader, led by Luis Montenegro, indicates that the government intends to “revise the Decent Work Agenda”, stating that “one year after the entry into force of the diploma, it is necessary to evaluate it, in particular in Social Coherence and with all partners, the results of this first year of implementation on the ground.”

Labor changes to the Labor Program came into force on 1 May 2023 without the consent of Social Harmony and after a “marathon” of votes in Parliament.

According to the government, “labor laws remain firmly tied to traditional work models and struggle to address the challenges of labor in the digital age.”

“Social harmony, the most important partner of any government action in the social and labor sphere, has not received due appreciation in recent years,” the document says.

Montenegro’s chief executive said he intends to “resume a loyal and constructive dialogue with Social Accord,” adding that recent tripartite agreements “were either surpassed by the previous government or were not even signed by some partners.”

Regarding labor law, the purpose of the State Program is to “expand the areas of intervention in collective bargaining without special restrictions, namely issues such as legal relations and type of employment, mobility mechanisms, probationary periods, working hours and related aspects of dismissal” . connections.”

Regarding the national minimum wage, the Government Program maintains the target already put forward during the AD election campaign: reaching €1,000 by the end of the legislature in 2028, with increases based on inflation and productivity growth.

The Democratic Alliance (AD) government program was approved this Wednesday, ahead of two days of debate in parliament on Thursday and Friday.

Presidential Minister Antonio Leitan Amaro said the document is based on the AD’s electoral program, but includes more than 60 measures that coincide with those of other parties.
