Today the first meeting of trade unions and associations MAI, PSP and GNR will take place

Interior Minister Margarida Blasco will meet this Friday with the PSP trade unions and the GNR associations, a meeting that should serve to open the negotiation process with the aim of “resolving issues related to career and remuneration status.”

The meeting with 11 structures of the Security Service and Public Police and the National Republican Guard is scheduled for 16:00 at the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) and was announced on Thursday by the Prime Minister in the Assembly of the Republic. in the debates on the program of the XXIV Constitutional Government.

Luis Montenegro said the government would begin talks with security forces “to discuss issues related to careers and remuneration status,” with the first meeting with forces representing the police scheduled for Friday.

In the appeal sent to the PSP trade unions and public and professional associations of the State People’s Republic, MAI does not indicate the reason for the meeting, limiting itself to stating that it is taking place within the “framework of social dialogue between the Ministry of Internal Affairs, unions and public and professional associations of law enforcement agencies.”

Association of Professional Police Unions (ASPP) President Paulo Santos told Lusa that he did not know the reason for the meeting, stressing that “given the urgency in which it was planned, from one day to the next,” he hoped that “something will be brought forward.” specific” or a proposal to assign an addition to the mission, the main requirement of the police.

National Guard Sergeants Association President Ricardo Rodriguez also told Lusa that the mission addition is “the only outstanding issue that deserves urgent resolution.”

In turn, the President of the National Police Union and representative of the platform uniting the PSP and GNR structures expressed reservations to Lusa regarding the presentation of a specific proposal, taking into account that the call for proposals does not contain “any operating procedures”.

Bruno Pereira also criticized the government program for being “unclear” and “unimplemented” in allocating additional police missions.

The government program, which is being discussed in the Assembly of the Republic, says the process will be initiated “as a priority” for “decent career advancement” and “professional and paid development” of police officers, without mentioning an addition to the mission.

The assignment of an additional task to the police, identical to that which the previous government assigned to members of the judicial police, is the main demand of members of the PSP and the GPR, who staged several protests in the first two months of the year. .
