PCP Announces Draft Resolution Rejecting Stability Program Document

The PKP will present a draft resolution in which it will propose abandoning the Stability Program announced on Monday, Communist Secretary General Paulo Raimundo said on Tuesday.

“Taking into account the options and measures that the current PSD/SDS government will take and which will only exacerbate national problems and external subordination, the PKP will present a draft resolution that requires a vote on the prospect that the stability program presented by the Government, proposing its refusal and confirming the possible and the necessary alternative policies,” said Paulo Raimundo at a press conference at which he presented the conclusions of the PCP Central Committee.

The government has kept Portuguese economic growth at 1.5% this year, in line with the forecast in the 2024 state budget and a tenth below the macroeconomic forecasts of the Democratic Alliance (AD) in its election programme.

The executive also predicts that without new measures, the budget surplus this year will be 0.3% of GDP, slightly above the 0.2% recorded in the state budget but below the 0.8% forecast in the Democratic Alliance’s (AD) election platform ).

In the Stability Program (PE) for the period between 2024 and 2028, sent on Monday by the government to parliament, the executive estimates the budget surplus, excluding new measures, at 0.3% of GDP this year, so the fiscal margin is around 800 million euros for new offers without affecting the balance of accounts.

This scenario is based on an invariant policy, that is, it takes into account only measures legislated or provided for by the previous government.
