Education, Science and Innovation Minister Fernando Alexandre announced on Tuesday that the government would “soon” present an emergency plan to address the teacher shortage, a situation he classified as “very serious.”
Speaking to journalists in Barcelos, Braga district, on the sidelines of the inauguration of María José Fernández as president of the Coordination Council of Higher Polytechnic Institutes, Fernando Alexandre stressed that in mid-March there were still 1,172 students studying at least one subject. without a teacher since the beginning of the school year.
“This is a very serious situation, a structural problem, and it needs to be resolved quickly. We will soon present an emergency plan to address the teacher shortage,” he said.
