The government will submit a proposal to reduce the IRS to parliamentary debate on the 24th.

The Parliamentary Leaders’ Conference has scheduled for this Wednesday the 24th debate on the government’s proposal to cut the IRS to come into effect this year, a measure announced by Prime Minister Luis Montenegro last Thursday.

This schedule, drawn up by the head of the AD (Democratic Alliance), was given to journalists by the representative of the conference of parliamentary leaders, Social Democrat Jorge Paulo Oliveira.

In addition to the proposed law to cut the IRS, which has now entered the agenda on the 24th as an addendum, Jorge Paulo Oliveira also mentioned that the first two-week debate of the current legislature with the participation of the Prime Minister will take place on May 15th.

At today’s meeting, a potential agenda has been set, but none of the topics have yet been announced by the various panels: May 2 for the PS and May 3 of this month for the Livre. The one on May 8th will be from the Liberal Initiative, and the one on the 9th of the same month will be in charge of the SDP.

Also, according to Jorge Paulo Oliveira, on May 16, Chegi’s agenda will be submitted to the plenary session on the creation of a parliamentary commission to investigate the case of treatment of Portuguese-Brazilian twin children at the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon.

Various time frames for plenary debate were closed at this Wednesday’s leadership conference meeting, which will increase total debate time in the current legislature by about 16%, according to a spokesperson. .

“We have another political force in our parliament, but first of all there are two more parliamentary groups,” he explained.

In this first legislative session, which will be longer than usual because it does not end until September 2026, each parliamentary group will be able to hold three rather than two parliamentary days.
