Pedro Reis says the Macau Forum is an opportunity to strengthen the internationalization of the Portuguese economy

The Minister of Economy told Lusa this Thursday that “strengthening internationalization will be one of the priorities” of the new government, stressing that hosting the Macau Forum ministerial meeting next week is an opportunity.

“Strengthening the internationalization of the Portuguese economy will be one of the priorities of our mandate, and starting with Macau is an opportunity, given that the Forum allows us to deepen economic and trade ties between China and Portugal, as well as between Portuguese-speaking countries,” he said. The sixth Macau Forum Ministerial Conference is being held in the Special Administrative Region of China from Sunday to Tuesday.

According to the Ministry of Economy, China was the fifth main supplier of goods to Portugal in 2023, accounting for 5% of Portuguese purchases abroad, and is the 16th country in exporting Portuguese products, with 1,309 companies selling into Chinese territory in 2022. 402 Portuguese companies export services to Macau.
