Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro attended this Thursday the first meeting of the Council of the European Union in Brussels since taking office on 10 March. At the end of the meeting, Montenegro “unequivocally condemned Iran’s attack on Israel,” saying the council discussed additional sanctions against Iran related to the trade in manned aircraft and missiles.
The politician emphasized the importance of the European Union achieving greater energy independence with the possibility of prioritizing green energy to facilitate the energy transition. Another fundamental aspect that the Prime Minister considers a priority for Portugal is “the ability of private investors to act as a lever to increase investment and improve economic performance.”
Luis Montenegro assured in statements to journalists that the government remains “firm and strives to catch up with both the cohesion funds and the PRR, which is only 20% at about halfway through the implementation period.”
“We must show that we are capable of using the means that we have at our disposal,” he added.
