The Minister of Education is ready to return 20% per year to teachers

This Thursday, the Education Minister was available for negotiations on the seniority refund, explaining that the government’s proposal calls for the refund to begin this year, with the remaining 80% coming in the next four legislative years.

At the end of a day of meetings with ten union structures representing teachers, the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation Fernando Alexandre acknowledged the importance of counting the six years, six months and 23 days of frozen work experience in order to “bring back calm.” to schools,” recalling the government’s offer of 20% reimbursement per year.

Fernando Alexandre explained that the idea is to be able to return it at any time during the current legislature, “which is four and a half years old,” meaning 20% will be returned “this year and the rest within four years ” who are still part of this legislature.”

The minister recalled that different trade unions have presented very different formulas for replacing seniority. Most favored recovery after three years (33% per year), but there were those who suggested 60% in the first two years and 40% in the last two years, or 25% per year. STOP, for example, protected recovery in just two years, that is, by 50% each year.

Fernando Alexandre stressed that the “base” of guardianship is 20% per annum, promising to prepare a proposal for the next meeting, taking into account the proposals of the trade unions.

“We strive not only to implement our program, otherwise there would be no need to meet, we would only come to inform, we came first of all to listen and hear from ten trade unions a number of problems, one of which has already been identified, while others are new,” – he said in an address to reporters.

Regarding whether the process of restoring seniority will begin before or after the approval of the next state budget, the minister was evasive, saying that it is necessary to see “how things will go”: “It depends not only on us, otherwise we would not have these meetings with unions,” he said.

Negotiations begin in early May, and officials hope to find solutions that will ensure a smooth start to the next school year so that “students can learn the necessary skills and teachers can be fully present in the classroom.”

In addition to the minister, the meetings were attended by Undersecretary of State for Education Alexandre Homem Cristo, Secretary of State for Educational Management and Innovation Pedro Dantas da Cunha and Secretary of State for Public Administration Marisa Garrido.

On Friday, the ministry team receives the two largest trade union structures: FNE and Fenprof.
