Pollen concentrations in the air will remain high next week across the continent and will be low in the Azores and Madeira archipelagos, the Portuguese Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (SPAIC) said on Thursday.
According to SPAIC forecasts for the week of April 19 to 25, despite high concentrations across the continent, the central and Alentejo regions will experience rain and downpours over the weekend, temporarily reducing pollen concentrations in the air due to an atmospheric washout effect.
According to the SPAIC Pollen Bulletin, once the rainfall stops, the pollen concentration in the atmosphere in these regions will rise again, SPAIC adds.
Currently and generally in the atmosphere of the continent, pollen grains of cypress, pine, oak, holm and cork oak are present, as well as herbaceous grasses, plantain, nettle, sorrel and nettle (including parietaria).
In the regions of Beira Litoral, Algarve, Lisbon and Setúbal, the first grains of olive pollen are beginning to be found in the air, while in the Algarve, Lisbon and Setúbal pollination of Chaenopodium is highlighted.
In the northern and central regions of the country, birch pollination is observed, which will continue.
In the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira, where concentrations will be low during the week in question, the pollen present in the atmosphere is predominantly from pine and cypress (and/or cryptomeria in the Azores) and nettle grasses (including parietaria). , plantain and herbs.
