Rail traffic on the Cascais line in the Oeiras-Cascais section will be closed on Sunday from 5:30 to 8:40 am due to modernization work, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) said on Friday.
In the press release, the IP also emphasized that “alternative road transport will not be provided during this period.”
“We are grateful for a better understanding of any disruption that periodic rail bans may cause as this is essential to continue the work being done and improve the quality, efficiency and safety of the public railway. transport service in Cascais,” he further explained.
Rail traffic on the Cascais line has been restricted in recent weeks following a March 19 fire at the Cais do Sodre electrical substation caused by a cable-laying maneuver as part of work on the Lisbon metro.
Since then, train services have remained limited, with reduced train numbers and stoppages at all stations, a source from CP – Comboios de Portugal confirmed to Lusa.
The same source said in early April that six trains operate during rush hour, and three per hour outside of this period.
The causes of the fire, as explained by the same source, “are not related to the modernization works of the Cascais line that are ongoing, and do not interfere with the normal progress of these works, which are taking place at this stage between the municipalities of Oeiras and Cascais.”
