Vaccine-preventable diseases are on the rise in European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) warned this Monday as part of European Vaccination Week.
This World Health Organization (WHO) European initiative, running from Sunday to the 27th, aims to “celebrate the success and ability of vaccination to protect multiple generations from preventable diseases, allowing (…) to be full and healthy “
“It is disappointing to see that despite decades of well-documented vaccine safety and effectiveness, EU/EEA countries [Noruega, Islândia e Liechtenstein] and around the world they are still facing outbreaks of some vaccine-preventable diseases,” ECDC director Andrea Ammon said, as quoted in a statement from the European agency.
