Ana Miguel Pedro, adviser to the CDS-PP in the European Parliament, will be the party’s nominated candidate to join the Democratic Alliance (AD) list in the European elections, finishing third.
Durval party spokesman Thiago Ferreira told reporters at the national headquarters of the CDS-PP, where the party’s National Council is meeting to approve the list.
“The SDS indicates three active names in a joint list with the PSD, the first name is Ana Miguel Pedro. This is a person who has worked in the EP for about 12 years and has extensive experience in European affairs,” the leader said.
Ana Miguel Pedro Soares, 35, is a member of the National Political Committee of the CDS-PP.
The CDS-PP is also nominating Vasco Weinberg, who is currently an MEP for the party, for 10th place on the list after he replaced centrist leader Nuno Melo, who is Minister of National Defense, at the end of March.
The third candidate in terms of efficiency will be Jose Liman, who took 15th place.
The representative emphasized that Ana Miguel Pedro is “a young woman” and noted that this choice “is in line with the direction of the CDS: independent personnel, trustworthy personnel, recognized in society and, at the same time, a new generation that wants to establish itself in Portuguese politics “
“This choice to become a woman has nothing to do with quota obligations, it was our first choice from the very beginning. This was a choice that the party welcomed with enthusiasm and I think it will be an added value in this joint list that we will present.” with PSD”.
On Sunday, in his closing speech at the 31st Congress of the CDS-PP, which took place this weekend in Viseu, the party president and former MEP left the floor to Ana Miguel Pedro, who has not yet been declared a candidate.
“I have succeeded as far as the SDS is concerned, some of the most prominent cadres of the party, and have now been replaced by one of our new talents, Vasco Weinberg, who did not need much to show his worth and who in Brussels is also benefiting from the talent and contributions of many other professionals, some confirmed, others with a bright future, such as our Ana Miguel Pedro Soares, who is one of the people who knows the most about the European project and works the most for it. the importance of the European project for Portugal,” he emphasized.
The AD list (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition) will be headed by journalist and TV commentator Sebastian Bugallo.
When asked about this choice, Durval Thiago Ferreira recalled that “Sebastian Bugalho was already the CDS candidate for the 2019 legislative elections.”
“He is also a young man, he is a person well known in the media, he is an intelligent person with a great capacity for political intervention. Once again, the right and center-right forces are bringing a new generation onto the stage in Portugal. politics, and we think he’ll obviously be a good top of the list,” he said.
The spokesman also stated that “although it was the choice of the SDP”, the centrists were “naturally happy with this choice”.
