BE wants a special deduction of another 582 euros and increases deductions along with interest on housing

On Monday, BE proposed increasing the special deduction for all taxpayers by €582 and updating interest costs on home loans to the IRS, including contracts entered into after 2011.

These proposals were announced by the parliamentary leader of the Left Bloc, Fabian Figueiredo, at a press conference in which he accused the government of preparing a “trick” at the IRS level with a diploma that will be discussed in parliament on Wednesday and which was approved by the Council of Ministers on Friday.

“Any taxpayer who pays the IRS will receive an additional discount of 582 euros,” said Fabian Figueiredo.

The parliamentary leader of the Left Bloc later noted that the amount of the specific deduction “has not been updated since 2010.”

“With rising inflation, especially in recent years, this value needs to be updated. This is a much fairer way for the IRS to change than the government’s,” he said.

The BE Bar President then proposed that all home purchase contract holders be eligible to deduct interest expenses from the IRS, even if the underlying purchase contracts date after 2011. And, on the other hand, the interest costs are updated by 300 euros taking into account the increase in inflation in recent years and could thus reach 380 euros.

Under current law, contracts for which interest can be deducted by the IRS must be entered into by December 2011. And since the 2012 budget, there have been no updates on the amounts with interest that can be deducted from the IRS, and no option to extend that deadline. measures to conclude new housing loan agreements.

“We are seeing rising interest rates, a phenomenon that is being pressured by the European Central Bank and also due to banks prioritizing millions in profits at the expense of more responsible policies,” he said.

Fabian Figueiredo also believed that the government with an absolute socialist majority had a “wrong policy” regarding the calculation of interest, since it only carried it forward into the future.

Regarding the government charter, which will be discussed in parliament on Wednesday, the chairman of the Left Bloc bench said that “the country has realized that this is a ploy and that it has very little impact on ordinary people, since a salary of a thousand euros will have an increase in income of 1. 8 euros net per month, that is, a little more than two cups of coffee.”

“Prime Minister [Luís Montenegro] “He went so far as to say that pensioners with income up to €550 would get an IRS improvement, but anyone who knows a little about taxes knows that these pensions are no longer paid by the IRS,” he added.
