Hugo Soares says Bugallo was the PSD president’s “only candidate” to top the list

The Secretary General of the PSD said this Monday that Sebastián Bugallo was the “only choice” and the “only invitation” made by Luis Montenegro to head the AD list for the Europeans and “everything else was a fabrication” of the media.

Hugo Soares spoke to journalists after the PSD National Council approved with a “large majority” of “four or five votes against” the list of candidates for the European Parliament from the Democratic Alliance coalition (SDS, CDS-PP and PPM).

When asked whether Rui Moreira was invited as number two and whether it was expected that he would never top the list, Hugo Soares replied that “the country is used to it” and the media “should get used to” the way the PSD leadership makes its choice based on the lists or by government members

“It is not the media who choose the names, but the national leadership, with complete restraint,” he said.

Hugo Soares admitted that the choice of journalist and TV commentator Sebastian Bugalho “would surprise many”, but assured that it was “the only choice of the party president, and everything else was a fabrication made up by the media.”
