The Greens group in the European Parliament (EP) on Tuesday pushed to speed up an investigation into external interference on the day German authorities detained an MEP aide on suspicion of spying for China.
In a statement, the Greens called on European Parliament President Roberta Metsola to “accelerate the parliamentary investigation into links between MEPs and foreign powers” following the revelation of another suspected spy for China, which led to the arrest in Germany on Tuesday of an MEP aide and the head of a far-right list of the Alternative for Germany party of Maximilian Kra.
One of the Greens’ candidates for European Commission president, Terry Reintke, said in a statement that the internal investigation needed to be accelerated so that preliminary findings could be made public before the June 6-9 election.
