The Minister of Health accepted this Wednesday the resignation of the Executive Director of the National Health Service (SNS), Fernando Araújo, indicating that “in due time the decision for the Executive Directorate will be known.”
Late Tuesday afternoon, the SNS chief executive announced his resignation along with his team, saying he did not want to be an obstacle to the government’s policies and measures it deems necessary.
“The Minister has already responded to Dr. Fernando Araujo, thanking him for the communication and services provided, as well as informing him of his acceptance of this request, which was submitted voluntarily and spontaneously,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
The guardianship indicates that Fernando Araujo’s resignation was submitted “via email.”

The Executive Directorate began operations on January 1, 2023, in accordance with the new SNS Regulations proposed by then Minister Marta Temido, with the aim of coordinating the response to assistance of all SNS units and modernizing its management.
