Former Health Minister Manuel Pizarro praised this Wednesday the independence and verticality of the outgoing chief executive of the National Health Service (SNS), Fernando Araujo, considering that “these qualities are not always highly valued by the political authorities.”
“Fernando Araújo is an exceptional doctor, an emeritus university professor, a public administrator with proven evidence, a citizen to whom the Portuguese owe a lot,” Manuel Pizarro wrote in a message published on the social network Facebook.
Late Tuesday afternoon, the SNS chief executive announced his resignation along with his team, saying he did not want to be an obstacle to the government’s policies and measures it deems necessary.
“I will not comment on the circumstances that force him to take such a position. But I publicly testify to my appreciation and admiration for him, his verticality and his independence. Qualities that are not always highly valued by political power in people occupying positions of power. in public administration, we will quickly understand how much the country and the SNA lack it,” says Manuel Pizarro.
The Executive Directorate began operations on January 1, 2023, in accordance with the new SNS Regulations proposed by then Minister Marta Temido, with the aim of coordinating the response to assistance of all SNS units and modernizing its management.
