Flights canceled in France on Thursday despite strike being called off

Tens of thousands of passengers will be denied flights on Thursday in France, despite the lifting of a strike called this Wednesday by the main air traffic controllers union over the failure to reverse flight cancellations.

“Despite the cancellation of this notice, the late completion of negotiations with SNCTA [Sindicato Nacional dos Controladores de Tráfego Aéreo] and the need to complete negotiations with other unions will not avoid disruption,” the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) said in a statement on Thursday.

In a statement, the DGAC said it had asked airlines to reduce the number of flights to adapt existing staff to traffic levels, equivalent to a 75 percent cut at Paris Orly airport, where three out of every four flights will be cancelled.
