The head of state was asked about the dismissal of the executive directorate of the SNA, headed by Fernando Araujo, when he left the Carmo barracks in Lisbon, where he participated in a debate with students on April 25.

“It will be worth the wait,” he replied.

“They told me there would be a report from those who would come out explaining what they had done, there would be decisions from those who were currently responsible for the future of the government. Let’s wait,” confirmed Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.

In a statement, Fernando Araújo said that the SNS Executive Directorate “is a technical body, a public institution of the state, which must stand above political issues or party programs and which implements public policies determined by the government.”

This Wednesday, the Minister of Health accepted the resignation of SNS Executive Director Fernando Araújo, indicating that “in due time the decision for the Executive Directorate will be known.”

The SNS Executive Directorate began operations on January 1, 2023, in accordance with the new SNS Regulations proposed by then Minister Marta Temido, with the aim of coordinating the response to assistance of all SNS units and modernizing its management.
