This Wednesday, the Assembly of the Republic unanimously approved the expression of condolences for the death of 53-year-old journalist Pedro Cruz, remembering him as one of the “most vibrant and courageous” voices in the media.
With this vote, presented by the Chega parliamentary group, the Assembly of the Republic “deplores the death of Pedro Cruz and expresses its deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.”
The text recalls the professional career of Pedro Cruz, who has worked for media outlets such as SIC or TSF, and most recently as head of Global Media.
“Over the course of his career, Pedro Cruz became an unavoidable presence in Portuguese journalism, known not only for his ability to lead and coordinate news programs, but also for his courage and dedication to reporting on global conflicts,” it says, recalling that he lived through the conflict. scenarios such as Kosovo, Syria, Albania, Haiti or Lebanon, and more recently Ukraine.
Parliament also believes that “Pedro Cruz will be remembered not only as an outstanding journalist, but also as a mentor and inspiration to many who had the honor of working alongside him.”
“His death is an irreparable loss for Portuguese and international journalism, but his legacy and the standards he set will certainly continue to influence future generations of journalists,” the deputies say, emphasizing “that his commitment to the truth and his courage in providing information is the voice of those who are voiceless will remain an effective symbol of journalistic integrity.”
Journalist Pedro Cruz died on Sunday at the age of 53 from lung cancer at the CUF Tejo hospital in Lisbon.
Pedro Cruz was currently the Director of Global Media as well as the Director of TSF Radio. He distinguished himself in the service of the SIC, where he worked from the late 90s (1998/99) to 2021 and held the positions of coordinator of the Porto newsroom and deputy director of information for the channel.
Political and international areas were the ones he followed most closely, having been present in various situations of conflict and international tension, namely in Kosovo, Syria, Albania, Haiti, Lebanon or Ukraine.
MPs today also approved an expression of condolences for the death of actor Ricardo Perez, who died on Saturday at the age of 49 from cancer.
“Ricardo Perez was an outstanding actor and one of the most beloved names in improvisational theater in Portugal,” emphasizes the vote of condolences unanimously approved today, through which the Assembly of the Republic “deplores the death of Ricardo Perez and expresses its regret for the death of Ricardo Perez . Deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.”
“Therefore, at this moment of mourning, we honor not only the memory of this magnificent artist, whose legacy and influence will remain in the history of Portuguese theater, but also the contribution of Ricardo Pérez to the art and culture of Portugal, as well as the contribution of the influence of his personality and his work on the lives of many people.” , it says.
In the text, also presented by Chega, the deputies recall that the actor participated in “Comedy a la carte” and the television program “From Five to Midnight” and remember him as “a cult figure in the world of humor and improvisation.”
