The President of the Government of the Azores calls for reflection on current demands

The President of the Azores government said this Thursday that it is “extremely important” to think about how to meet “current needs” and pay attention to “the emerging needs of society and, in dialogue, to respect its pluralism.”

“In the year in which we celebrate our 50th anniversary on April 25, it is essential to reflect on how we can respond courageously and responsibly to the demands of new times,” José Manuel Bolheiro said in a message published this year. Thursday on social networks.

In the message, José Manuel Bolheiro noted that April 25, 1974 “marked the awakening of freedom and democracy” in Portugal and strengthened the “desire for autonomy”, but in the future it is necessary to ensure that young people “can build a “prosperous future” with educational opportunities , employment, housing and civic participation.

It is also necessary to contribute to ensuring that “older people age with dignity and safety and retain the right to their space and integration into the family and society,” emphasized the President of the Regional Government of the Azores.

The Chief Executive of the Azores (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), who took part this Thursday in the commemorative meeting of the Assembly of the Republic in Lisbon, said that five decades after April 25, 1974, “we continue to defend democratic values” by promoting “ dialogue and respect for the differences that unite us.”

However, he added, “we must be attentive to the emerging needs of our society and, in dialogue, respect its pluralism, thereby interpreting the sovereign will of our people.”

José Manuel Bolheiro emphasized that freedom “is a constant learning that requires responsible behavior” and “where we must be an example of what we stand for, cultivating humanistic values such as equality, fraternity and human dignity.”

“Celebrating 50 years of freedom and democracy also means renewing our commitment to the dreams and aspirations of the Azorean people, ensuring that our autonomy is preserved, deepened and strengthened for future generations, thereby paying tribute to those who came before us,” he stressed.
