Two new books by Pope Benedict XVI, who passed away on December 31, 2022, will be released in Portugal in the coming months, while God is Always New – Spiritual Thoughts will hit bookstores in February.
This book is prefaced by Pope Francis, who considers its pages to be “a kind of ‘spiritual synthesis’ of the writings of Benedict XVI: here shines through his ability to show in a new way the depth of the Christian faith.”
“The thought of Benedict XVI is and will always remain a thought and a magisterium that has been fruitful over time, because he managed to concentrate on the main points of reference of our Christian life: above all, on the person and word of Jesus Christ, besides the virtues of theological principles, that is mercy, hope, faith. And for all this the Church will always be grateful to Him. Forever,” writes Francis in the preface.
The publisher Lucerna, in a footnote to this book, recalls that “the words of Benedict XVI nourished the faith of believers and questioned the intelligence of unbelievers. His passion for the person of Christ and for the events of Christianity was balanced by a simple argument. and fascinating, in which the depth of theological wisdom was revealed in communication accessible to all.
The work will start in Lisbon on February 28 in the hall of the church of Santa Joana Princesa within the framework of the “Meetings dedicated to Benedict XVI”, with a presentation by João Cesar das Neves, and in Fatima, on March 4, with a presentation by Cardinal Antonio Marto.
In the second quarter of this year, Lucerne will edit the book What is Christianity – Almost a Spiritual Testament, which Joseph Ratzinger prepared in recent years and which he left ready for publication shortly after his death.
Also during the first quarter, in partnership with the Portuguese edition of Communio — Revista Internacional Católica, the article “The Beauty of Faith in the Light of Reason – Articles from the Communio Magazine” will be published, containing texts by Josef Ratzinger/Benedict XVI. in this journal, added from the original text by the German pontiff.
