Current Social Democratic MP Andrea Bernardo worked as a consultant to Pedro Nuno Santos’ campaign for the direct PS elections in December, but insists she had no further professional contact with the Socialist leader.
“I have always been involved in the field of communication with different clients. At the same time, I also have political activities. I have always separated the waters,” Andrea Bernardo, who appears on the Social Network Page of the Democratic Youth (JSD), told the Lusa agency this Wednesday as president of the Lisbon County Policy Commission.
In the last legislative elections, 32-year-old Andrea Bernardo stood 18th on the Democratic Alliance (AD) list for the Lisbon constituency, was a councilor in the Chamber of Sintra, and is now a municipal deputy for the PSD in that municipality.
Andrea Bernardo was present at the PS national headquarters in Largo do Rato in Lisbon on November 13 when Pedro Nuno Santos presented his candidacy for the post of PS secretary general in direct elections in December. He provided his personal contact details to several journalists covering the event, providing them with additional information about the internal campaign of the current PS general secretary.
“It was the only time I was in Largo do Rato. [sede do PS]. I never returned there again,” he assured the Lusa agency.
The current PSD deputy provided Lusa with information about the internal electoral activities of Pedro Nuno Santos until at least November 18, 2023.
Andrea Bernardo claims that last November she worked as an account director at Agência Gomes de Almeida & Associados and in a short period of time provided “assistance” to the team assigned to provide communication assistance to Pedro Nuno Santos.
“After that we left the communications department. And the agency was left with only strategy, social media and creativity (design),” he added.
Regarding the period of the electoral campaign and election campaign before the legislative elections of March 10, when she was already formally a candidate for the AD in the Lisbon constituency, Andrea Bernardo assures that her agency “had nothing to do” with the PS.
“The person concerned was João Gomes de Almeida, but on an individual basis. It was a one-on-one consulting deal directly with Pedro Nuno Santos,” he added.
