André Villas-Boas became this Saturday the 34th president in the history of FC Porto, winning Saturday’s governing body elections with 21,489 votes (80.28%), breaking a cycle of 15 mandates and 42 years of Pinto da Koshty.
In the most popular election in the club’s history, the former coach of the Porto football team (list B) unseated the then leader of the Blaugrana (A), who received 5,224 votes (19.52%), and businessman and professor Nuno Lobo (C) confirmed his status as the third and final candidate for the most votes achieved in 2020, with just 53 (0.2%).
There were still 73 empty votes and 37 zero votes on the day a record 26,876 members elected governing bodies for the four-year period 2024-2028 at the Dragau Stadium in the harbour, according to General Assembly Council President José Lourenço Pinto.
The unprecedented election of 46-year-old Andre Villas-Boas marks the end of the presidency of 86-year-old Pinto da Costa, who had already been in charge of FC Porto since April 17, 1982 and has since become the coach with the most titles and longevity in world football.
The heads of the list proposed by the list of the former coach, António Tavares and Angelino Ferreira, won the race for the post of head of the Council of the General Assembly and the Financial and Disciplinary Council respectively, bodies that will no longer be commanded by José Lourenço Pinto, number one released for the re-nomination of Pinto da Costa and Jorge Guimarães.
The High Council elected 20 effective members using the Hondt method, including 15 from List B, four from List A and one from the Autonomous Movement led by lawyer and university professor Miguel Bras da Cunha (D), who ran only for the advisory body.
