Francisco Pauperio guarantees that he has the support of the Livre and says which party will think about the primaries.

The head of the Livre list for the European elections, Francisco Pauperio, assured this Monday that he has the support of the party and Rui Tavares, and said that the primaries process will be subject to an internal analysis.

The Livre researcher and leader spoke to reporters outside the Constitutional Court (TC) in Lisbon, accompanied by a small delegation that did not include spokesman Rui Tavares or any sitting party lawmaker.

When asked about this absence, Pauperio explained that Rui Tavares is on “parliamentary work” and that the internal process happened “very quickly”, since the list was only approved on Sunday evening by the Assembly, the highest body between the congresses, after a process of primaries that caused some internal disagreements.

“Of course we have the support of the party, the list was approved yesterday, the list was delivered and now we are ready for the electoral campaign,” assured Pauperio, accompanied by leader Patricia Robalo, a member of the current leadership of the party.

Pauperio rejected the fact that the vote on the list he heads, which was approved on Sunday in the Assembly by 13 votes in favor, 18 abstentions and six against, was not motivated by the vote on the list he heads, and insisted that he is not trusted only Rui Tavares, but also “all party organs”.

“I understand that this is a debated topic, but the truth is that all bodies participated in these primaries, and the bodies are sovereign, the bodies made decisions, and from now on we are united in this campaign,” he emphasized.

Asked whether Livret would rethink the core process, Pauperio said: “Livret will think about what it needs to do in relation to this process and will certainly discuss this issue internally in the future.”

When asked whether he would fulfill his mandate, the Livre leader replied that this was his and the party’s intention.

“I don’t see any problem with this,” he added.

Pauperio wants to focus the campaign on European issues and show “why it is important to have Livre in the European Parliament.”

“This will be the last plenary meeting until 2030, where we will try to at least prevent the direction in which we are moving at the moment, which is the climate crisis, the direction of increasing inequality. This is the last plenary session of the European Parliament. in which we can change this course and create a social, greener and more democratic Europe,” he said.

Francisco Pauperio is 28 years old, born in Lesa da Palmeira, Matosinhos, and is a researcher by profession. He obtained a degree in Biology with a specialization in Bioinformatics from the Faculties of Sciences of the Universities of Porto and Lisbon and is currently pursuing a PhD in Integrative Biology and Biomedicine at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia.

In the March legislative elections he was the party’s number three in the Porto constituency.

In the last European elections in 2019, Rui Tavares led the Livre list and Joacine Catar Moreira was “number two”, who was elected as a member of the Assembly of the Republic that same year and lost the political confidence of the party for about two months. . after.

At that time, the party received 1.83% of the vote, equivalent to 60,575 ballots, which was not enough to be elected.
