Chegi President André Ventura said this Monday that the head of his party’s list for the European elections, António Tangier Correa, will be “the only adult in the room” and criticized the candidates of the PS and the Democratic Alliance (AD). ) .
“We have the head of the list, who has been the Vice President of Chega for many years, a name recognized in society, with experience. In fact, I would venture to say that he will be the only adult in the room for these European elections, since others are far from it and nominated candidates that were either honest, or caricatures, or not very trustworthy,” he said.
The Chegi leader spoke to reporters before presenting the party’s list of candidates for the European elections on June 9 to the Constitutional Court of Lisbon. Andre Ventura noted that the candidates were chosen by him and said he expected a “big victory” from his party.
As for the head of the AD list, Sebastian Bugalho, he considered him “not very trustworthy”, and the first candidate from the PS, Marta Temido, said that it was “disrespectful to the Portuguese” and that “it couldn’t be worse”.
Andre Ventura also said that these European elections “will not be a second round of legislative elections, as Montenegro intended, but will be a clarification of what happened on March 10.”
The leader of the Chegi list, Tangier Correa, assured that the party “takes European problems very seriously, because it is in Europe that the main problems and the future of Europe are solved.”
“This next mandate is an extremely important mandate, there are several programs on the table,” he stressed, lamenting that most citizens have “no idea what’s going on in Brussels” and guaranteeing that the party will try to turn around this situation.
Candidate and leader Chega said the European Union should continue to support Ukraine militarily, but warned of a reduction in European investment in military equipment.
Chegi Vice President António Tangier Correa leads Chegi’s list in the European Parliament elections, with former PSD MP Thiago Moreira de Sa in second place, followed by former IL leader Mariana Nina Silvestre.
In fourth place on the list is Francisco Almeida Leite, a former journalist and former secretary of state in the government of Pedro Passos Coelho, in fifth place is Chega leader Marcia Ferreira da Silva, who became a member of the party ethics committee, and sixth place in the list is Americo Silva Dias, who was a candidate for the Chamber of Funchal in 2021 from the coalition uniting the parties of the Alliance and the NPM.
