PCP offers a 35 hour week for all employees

On Tuesday, the PKP proposed reducing the work week to 35 hours in all industries as part of a package of four bills introduced ahead of May 1.

Speaking to journalists at the Assembly of the Republic, the parliamentary leader of the PCP, Paula Santos, recalled that this Wednesday marks the 1st of May, which “will certainly be a great day of struggle for workers, in defense of their rights, more specifically wages, but also the fight against exploitation, injustice and inequality.”

“The PKP will put forward four legislative initiatives specifically to strengthen the rights of those who work, legislative initiatives that relate to issues of working time, because it is necessary to ensure conditions for effective coordination between professional, personal and family life. “, he decreed.

To this end, PCP is introducing an initiative that proposes to reduce weekly working hours to 35 hours, in both the public and private sectors, without loss of pay.

In the diploma, the party states that 35 hours is already a reality in public administration, as well as in many private sector companies, “however, there is still no general establishment of a maximum working time of 35 hours per week for workers who do not already have it.”

“The development of technology and science allows us to produce more and with higher quality, allows us to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness, and therefore all this knowledge – innovation, technology – must be put at the service of the interests of workers,” Paula said. Santos.

In parallel with this measure, the PKP is also issuing two diplomas, the purpose of which is to “put an end to the deregulation of working hours”, immediately abolishing the adaptability and time bank mechanisms, which, according to the party, are aimed at “achieving an increase in working hours”. time without charging the employer.”

“We cannot accept that a daily working day can be 10, 12, 14, 16 hours, in addition to the high pace of work and exploitation that this means and which does not allow for the articulation of professional and personal life. We believe that all these regimes and mechanisms (…) must be eliminated,” said Paula Santos.

Finally, the party also proposes to strengthen the rights of workers working in shifts or at night, limiting the use of this type of regime to situations that are “technically and socially justified”, as well as to “combat” the desire to “prolong continuous work.” in a group of companies.”

“We also suggest that, of course, there should be proper compensation for workers who work in shifts and at night. The hardship, the risk, the wear and tear that comes with it requires this fair compensation,” said Paula Santos, adding that this is also necessary. define “an early retirement regime that takes into account the stressful and risky work rhythm.”

Paula Santos emphasized that with this package of measures, the PKP wants to outline “the path and the need” to remove “rigid standards” from the Labor Code and “move towards strengthening workers’ rights,” especially with regard to labor rights. watch.
