Sporting beat Portimonense 3-0 today in the 32nd round of the I Football League and are two points away from the title, which they can win on Sunday if Benfica do not beat Famalicao.
At the Estadio José Alvalade, striker Paulinho opened the scoring in the 13th minute and the Lions extended their lead in the second half with goals from Francisco Trincao (70) and Sweden’s Gyökeres (90+2), the tournament’s top scorer with 27 goals.
The triumph leaves Sporting leading with 84 points, eight more than Benfica, and awaiting the Reds’ match to see if they can celebrate their 20th domestic title.
