PS accuses the government of creating instability with unfounded decisions and positions

The parliamentary leader of the PS accused the PSD/CDU-PP government this Wednesday of creating instability through a “pattern of behavior” in which it makes decisions such as the recent dismissals, or makes statements about public reports without giving facts and reasons.

Speaking to reporters in parliament, Alexandra Leitan expressed concern among the socialists about the “pattern of government behavior in recent days.”

The challenge for the MP and PS leader is for the “government to clarify what the facts are on which it is based in order to take a series of actions, be it sackings or public reports” that “have no basis.” “.

“The lack of a factual basis only creates instability,” he lamented.

In the case of dismissals from high-ranking positions, Alexandra Leitan cited the example of the national director of the PSP or Mesa da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.

“In the case of Santa Casa da Misericórdia, these are unsubstantiated statements that have no facts to back them up and are of great seriousness. We believe that this instability is also created by this,” he criticized.

The leader of parliament also pointed out the contradiction in this issue, since “the prime minister came to say that when the new government comes, it has the right to change people to implement its own policies.”

“I don’t know where we are left: whether this is the replacement of people with new political orientations, or, on the contrary, as other members of the government said, there are serious things here that, I repeat, are not justified, not justified,” – he asked a question.

The same line of instability, according to Alexandra Leitau, is followed by the “repeated statements” of Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento.

“The minister is changing the size of what he says is a deficit, a problem with government accounts. He doesn’t justify it, doesn’t explain it. In fact, much of what he said has already been refuted,” he condemned.

For the Socialist MP, the most worrying thing is that this position of Miranda Sarmento “calls into question the prestige of Portugal, calls into question what the country and the Portuguese have managed to achieve in terms of international trust in Portuguese government records.”

“In fact, the government itself recently presented a Stabilization Plan in Brussels with a surplus of 0.3. What remains for us? We should not play with the prestige of the country in this way in the name of baseless partisan politics,” he said.

As Lusa reported yesterday, the PS wants to urgently hold hearings with the Minister of Finance to explain these statements.

“There was a reason to ask the Minister of Finance what expenses he would stop incurring. Will he stop buying vaccines, will he stop supporting Ukraine, will he stop supporting farmers, will he stop paying compensation determined by court decisions?” he asked. .
