PSP and GNR platform criticizes Montenegro for talking about “unrealistic scenarios”

A spokesman for the platform that brings together the PSP trade unions and the GNR associations this Friday criticized the Prime Minister for talking about “unrealistic scenarios” in negotiations with the government to increase the remuneration of the security forces.

In a conversation with Lusa, Bruno Pereira recalled that Luis Montenegro “repeatedly” pointed out the need to review the financial situation of the police “throughout the entire pre-election, electoral and post-victory period”, and found it alarming that such expectations from elements of the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR) are seen as an unrealistic scenario.

“The Prime Minister has left this idea up in the air, and that worries me,” said a platform spokesman, lamenting the consolidation of negotiations with the security forces “with the possible delay” of other sectors of government: “It doesn’t seem sensible to me. There are priority and strategic areas activities of the state, and this particular sector takes on a completely indispensable role as sovereign debt.”

The official, who is also president of the National Union of Police (SNOP), recalled that it was the strategic and priority nature that was the basis of negotiations with other professional classes such as doctors, and said that the issue of estimating the cost of the force was “too specific to be confused with others that are currently being discussed in other sectors of government.”

Asked about Luis Montenegro’s apparent message to the PSP and GNR trade unions and associations, saying that “now is not the time for interviews and messages through the media”, Bruno Pereira hoped that this was not the prime minister’s intention. , when the next meeting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) with the PSP trade unions and public and professional associations of the State People’s Republic is scheduled for Wednesday.

“I think this would be a vile attack on what is a normal expression of trade unionism, which is a fundamental right of the constitution. Moreover: yesterday we were very careful and shared our proposal with the media only after we had officially made it to the MAI and civil society has a right to know, given the influence and discussions that have been building around this issue for several months.” – he emphasized.

At the inauguration ceremony of the new national director of the PSP, the Prime Minister assured that the government wants to give a “good continuation” to negotiations with the security forces, but warned against “unrealistic scenarios” and stressed that any changes would have consequences for the entire government administration.

A day after the platform presented its proposal to the government, which would involve an increase of around 600 euros by changing the current service and risk allowance in the security forces, Bruno Pereira said that this “cannot be [considerada] “unrealistic” and hoped that Interior Minister Margarida Blasco would come up with a “counterproposal of minimal merit” next Wednesday.

MAI proposed a new mission allowance for PSP and GNR elements ranging from €365.13 to €625.94.

The proposed allowance is based on the base salaries of the PSP National Director and the GNR Commander General and replaces the current Security Forces Service and Risk Allowance.

With this new mission allowance, officers will receive a mission allowance of 12% of the base salary of the PSP National Director and GNR Commander, which is €5,216.23, while the percentage for PSP Leaders and GNR NCOs is 9%, and for agents and security guards it is 7%.

The MAI guarantees that all GNR and PSP members “have increased remuneration” and that no security guard or police officer will have a lower income, receiving at least €1,050 more per year, and for some of them even more.
