“We see how Brazilian cartels are already involved in human trafficking with organized groups in Mozambique, as well as with other Portuguese-speaking countries,” Antonio De Vivo, a spokesman for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Organized Crime (UNODC), said in an interview. with Lusa to Maputo.
Links between drug trafficking groups have begun to emerge in recent years, the official said, citing as an example the 2020 arrest in Mozambique of Gilberto Aparecido dos Santos, known as “Fuminho”, one of the drug traffickers most wanted by Brazilian justice authorities. , as well as several drug seizures from Brazil by Mozambican authorities.
