The first debate on the European elections will take place this Monday with the leaders of the AD, PS, IL and Livre lists on the SIC, in a cycle that will only end on June 3 with a confrontation between eight participants on the radio.
The model of televised debates was closed only last week after the initial refusal of the 28-member PS and AD of a face-to-face meeting between the heads of the list of eight parties represented in the Assembly of the Republic and a second proposal that included three debates. between the forces in parliament and the face-to-face PS and Democratic Alliance (SDP, SDS-NP and PPM) – gave rise to threats to take precautionary measures and were rejected by the socialists.
The model, which led to consensus among the eight parties with seats in parliament, but against which the ADN party took precautions, calls for six debates with four parties and two debates with eight: some on RTP and others organized by radio stations.
The first four-way showdown will take place this Monday on SIC at 20:30 and will last about 50 minutes. It will feature the leaders of the AD list, Sebastian Bugallo from PS, Marta Temido from Illinois, Joao Cotrim de Figueiredo and Livre, Francisco Pauperio.
The second will be on Wednesday, on RTP, with “number one” in the composition of B.E. Catarina Martins, PAN Pedro Fidalgo Marquez, Chegi Antonio Tangier Correa and Livre, and on Friday on TVI will follow the confrontation between the top of the CDU. list: Joao Oliveira, Belgium, Illinois and Livre.
The fourth debate will take place at the SIC on May 20, with the participation of the CDU, PAN, Chega and Illinois. The next day, May 21st, it was time for a new debate on RTP with the participation of the PS, AD, Czega and the CDU.
The series of six four-way debates will conclude on TVI on May 24 with the participation of PS, AD, Bloco de Esquerda and PAN.
On Friday, the National Democratic Alternative (ADN) party announced that it had filed an injunction against RTP, SIC and TVI because these TV channels did not join the party in this model of televised debates.
“Although the ADN does not have a seat in the European Parliament, neither do the Chega, Liberal Initiative and Livre parties, so a differentiated approach to candidates is not understood,” the party explains.
On May 28, the RTP television channel will hold a debate with the eight leaders of the lists of parties represented in the Assembly of the Republic, and on May 30, the public channel will broadcast another debate with nine candidates from other parties that do not have representation in parliament.
On June 3rd it will be the turn of the radio debate, from 9:30 to 11:30, jointly organized by Antena 1, Rádio Renascença (RR), Rádio Observador and TSF.
The pre-election campaign for the European elections will begin on May 27 and will last until June 7. European elections are scheduled for June 9.
